Sam's Distributor gear page...
Well, I was on my way to lake city to go tubing with the Cub Scouts, and my engine just died. After a three hour tow truck tour we finally made it home, but I was WAY too tired to get in a different car and drive 3 hours again just in time to eat breakfast and go tubing. So, I started to investigate. This turned out to be the problem.
The moral of this story? double check everything. I'm using an Isky roller cam, and when I asked about the distributor gear at the shop they said they'd get me a bronze gear. I know you need one if you don't have a special iron gear on the billet steel roller cam, so i went with it. What i didn't know is that the Isky cams all have iron gears on them, and the circle track engines that the shop usually builds are tore down every 1200 laps (x .25 = 300 miles!) and freshened, and the gear is inspected / replaced.
Long story short, a new iron gear is on the way, and I should be happy again soon!
